The Fallen Lands: The Ruins of Numinis
Sons of the Beast
Sons of the Beast
The group that calls themselves the Sons of the Beast was originally formed by the followers of Gruumsh after the cataclysm. Gruumsh saw the cataclysm and the fall of Numinis as a result of the pride and arrogance exhibited by humanity and the other civilized races. Gruusmh believed that humanity’s time was ended and in place of a human empire, an empire founded and ruled by the monster races (specifically Goblinoids, Orcs, Gnolls, Ogres, Trolls, and barbaric humans) was about to ascend. Gruumsh went amongst the monster races following the cataclysm and taught them the skills of civilization. This included martial discipline and military organization, basic rules of governance, agriculture, and a few vocational skills. Gruumsh was a strong leader and he instilled a great amount of pride and knowledge into these formerly uncivilized races. Gruumsh’s belief in the ascendancy of a monster empire was also instilled in these races and so, the Imperialist mindset was born. Using the examples of empires past, Gruumsh began forming his disciples into a conquering army.
Word of a growing army spread through the lands; eventually reaching the ears of the other surviving heroes of Numinis. Avandra, Melora, Moradin, and Ioun knew that an organized force would destroy what remained of the civilization left behind after the fall. This forced them to take action against Gruumsh. Exactly what they did is not known, but the death of Gruumsh and the fracturing of the monster army was the end result.
Today the Sons of the Beast exist in small groups amongst the monster races. Most of the monster races exist in tribal communities, but the Sons recruit the smartest among them to their cause. They usually settle on the outskirts of cities and towns and walk openly in places that will tolerate monster races. They are often perpetrators of organized criminal activities as well as blatant acts of violence and thuggery. There is little known about the workings of the organization or if they have any kind of central leadership. Each of their members is branded with the symbol of the Sons of the Beast, a stylized face with a roaring fanged mouth.
